Logic Bots
A downloadable game
Logic Bots is a game about constructing and programming your best autonomous friend to conquer all others. Only one bot survives the arena intact. But any bot, winner or loser, can be reconstructed, modified, and reprogrammed, (one might say… revised???) in the infinite creative pursuit of robotic perfection.
Logic Bots aims to teach its players two things. First, the logic and art of programming. Players are tasked with designing an autonomous program in a way that asks them to think like a programmer. By posing this task as a game, Logic Bots makes programming more approachable to those with a learned aversion to computers and code. Second, Logic Bots teaches its players the art of revision. The goal of Logic Bots is not to immediately succeed, but to experiment, learn, and improve. This is an important skill for all creative processes, including programming! By separating the task into phases of design and observation, Logic Bots positions players in a cycle of experimentation and observation.
A game of Logic Bots consists of three matches, each with two phases. In the first phase, players construct and program their bot with the modules they’re given. In the second, the bots are sent into the arena. Players watch with bated breath as the game unfolds, observe their bot’s behavior, and analyze it for improvement in the next match.
Logic Bots was made in less than 48 hours for the 2022 Games4SocialImpact Game Jam at the University of Pittsburgh, with the theme of "revision".
